Congressman Rothman: FAA Reauthorization Bill Throws Workers Under the Bus

Statement

Today, Congressman Steve Rothman (NJ-9) released the following statement on his opposition to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reauthorization bill:

Once again, Republicans are holding our nation hostage to push forward their right-wing agenda. This bill is meant to increase the safety and efficiency of our airspace. It is no place to force through unprecedented changes to long established labor laws that will have a devastating impact on employees' rights to organize and make it easier for employers to suppress workers voices.

A long-term Federal Aviation Administration authorization bill is vital to ensure improvements are made to the safety and efficiency of air operations and execute NextGen air traffic control upgrades -- something that is essential for the crowded airspace of the New York/New Jersey region.

I truly regret that my Republican colleagues put their own partisan interests above what is in the best interest of our nation and have forced me to oppose this bill. I call on Congressional Republicans to end these political games and start negotiating in good faith.

Congress must provide a FAA reauthorization bill that improves the safety and efficiency of our airspace, without throwing America's workers under the bus.
